Pakistan’s defense ministry has asked all organizations working under its authority including Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force to follow the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Rules 2004. This is being done to ensure the transparency in all the defense contracts awarded by the Pakistani defense ministry and organizations working under it.
Pakistan’s defense ministry has issued the notification after the repeated questions raised by the auditor general of Pakistan that some departments of the Pakistan’s defense ministry are not following Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Rules 2004 and are not advertising the request for proposals and information before procuring the products which raises some transparency issues.
Notification has been issued by the deputy secretary coordination of Pakistan’s defense ministry, Zia-ud-Din Khurshid. Notification says that all the organization must follow the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Rules 2004 in the true perspective in letter and spirit while making procurements and any violation of these rules could have serious consciences and head of the organization will be held responsible for it.
