PM Gilani has assured to Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman that his government is fully behind that proposed projects for the modernization of the Pakistan Air Force.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani met with air chief at the Prime minister house. He was briefed by the air chief about the ongoing projects undertaken by the PAF.

Gilani said that PPP government wants to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to be one of the leading air force of the world. Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has also briefed the Prime minister about his future visit of South Africa and he discussed with him about different aspects of the visit.
Even though details are not released by the PAF, this visit might include discussions about the possible purchase of short range air to air A-Darter missiles for PAF.
A-Darter is a fifth generation short range infrared homing air-to-air missile which is being developed by the South Africa's Denel Dynamics and Brazil's Mectron. Pakistan Air Force has shown interest in the A-Darter missiles to equip its JF-17 fighter jets. Pakistan plans to induct 250 JF-17 Thunder fighter fleet.
