Former United States Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld has said in an interview to FOX that US should avoid making any decision in hurry which will result in some short-sighted actions like suspension or cancelation of the US aid to Pakistan.
He said that US needs to take a deep breath and should be aware of the fact that any short sighted decision like cutting aid or military relations will just help the Americans feel good for about five minutes but long term effects of such a decision will be completely against long term US interests.
Donald Rumsfeld has said that he hasn’t heard of any proof which can show that involvement of the Pakistani government at any level in hiding the Osama.
He said that US has did cut off all of our military to military relation in the 1980s and 1990s and they responded by developing nuclear weapons and these sanctions didn’t get USA far. He was of the view that Pakistan is very helpful in some areas and may not be helpful in others due to its own national interest just like USA.
He said that US should try to improve the relationships and adopt a realistic approach rather than an emotional one. He said that if he (Former United States Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld) was bin Laden he too would not want anyone in or out of the Pakistan government to know where he was.
