Due to ever increasing threat of terrorist attack on the nation,budget for the internal security was increased to Rs. 56 billion for the fiscal year 2011-12. This marks an increase of 2.6% over the internal security budget for the outgoing fiscal year. Last year Rs. 54.58 billion were allocated by the federal government of Pakistan.
A large sum of this allocation will be used in paying the salaries, allowances and accommodation facilities of the Pakistani security departments. Federal government has allocated Rs. 102 million for raising the Balochistan Constabulary and Rs. 300 million were allocated for setting up 'National Forensic Science Agency' headquarters and the Islamabad laboratory.
Rs. 300 million has been set aside for the 'Pakistan Automated Fingerprint Identification System (PAFIS)' and another Rs. 150 million will be spent for the purchase of the 'Non-Intrusive Vehicle Inspection X-Ray System (NVIS)' which will allow the vehicles to be checked without physical search.
Islamabad police will get Rs. 4.77 billion and Rs. 24.08 billion will be spent on the salaries and development of the civil armed forces of the country. government also plans to spent Rs. 220.58 million for the 'Integrated Border Management System (IBMS)'.
