Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) is planing install Karachi Nuclear Power Plant-2 (KANUPP-2) and Karachi Nuclear Power Plant-3 (KANUPP-3) with each of them capable of providing 1,000 megawatts of electricity to meet the ever growing gap between the demand and supply in the largest city of Pakistan. and help mitigate the energy crisis.
Pakistan newspaper 'The Express Tribune' has claimed that it had accessed the documents indicating that Chinese CNNC and PAEC may already have signed an agreement for the joint study to implement the project. Once the study is complete, next step will be to start the negotiation process for Kanupp-2 and Kanupp-3 nuclear reactors.
China has three state-owned corporations, which can own and operate nuclear power plants, including China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Company (CGNPC) and China Power Investment Corporation (CPIC).
