Pakistan And India To Hold Nuclear CBM Talks Later This Month

Additional Secretaries of Pakistan and India will hold nuclear and conventional Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) discussions on December 26- 27 after a  four year gap. Last such discussions were held on October 14, 2007.

India had agreed for the discussions on nuclear CBMs in during the visit of the Pakistani foreign minister, Hina Rabbani Khar to the New Delhi.

Pakistan and India will exchange the lists of their nuclear installations and facilities under  “Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack Against Nuclear Installations and Facilities.” This agreement was signed by Pakistan and India on December 31, 1988 and both countries exchange the list every year on January 1.
Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack Against Nuclear Installations and Facilities calls for  “refrain from undertaking, encouraging or participating in, directly or indirectly, any action aimed at causing the destruction of, or damage to, any nuclear installation or facility in the other country.”
