IN has confirmed that it will order 4 Boeing P-8I Maritime Patrol Aircrafts in addition to 8 already on order. Cost of these new 4 P-8Is will be around $1.5 billion.
The P-8I MPA is designed as a replacement for the P-3C MPA based on Boeing 737 aircraft. India is the first country outside USA to order P-8.
India is investing heavily in its navy to counter Chinese navy. Boeing has also responded to the Indian Navy’s RFI for 6 medium range MPAs.
India wants a maritime patrol aircraft with operational radius of 650 kilometers with endurance of over three hours. Aircraft should be able to carry at least two Anti-Ship Missiles along with other weaponry.
