Standing Committee on Environment Asks Pak Army to Stop Construction of New GHQ Complex

The Pakistan Army has started building a new General Headquarters (GHQ) in Islamabad to shift to the capital of Pakistan from the current GHO building in Rawalpindi.

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has confirmed this news to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Environment that Pakistan Army has indeed started the initial process of building the GHO in Islamabad.


Pakistan Army had previously acquired 726 acres of land in sectors E-10 and D-11 and 50 acres from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and over fifty cores has been paid to the CDA with outstanding balance of 20 cores.

National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Environment are of the view that this construction will result in environmental degradation of the area and have asked the Pakistan army to stop the construction work immediately.
