Indian Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar will discuss the delivery of nuclear submarine and aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov in his 4 day visit to Russia. He will also discuss the soured relationship due to the Russian decisions to not conduct scheduled exercises with the Indian naval and Indian army.
Indian naval chief Admiral Nirmal Verma has also expressed disappointment over Russian decisions. Russia informed India about the cancellation of the exercise when 5 Indian warships including INS Delhi, INS Ranvir and INS Ranvijay reached Vladivostok.
Russians said that they had no ships to spare for the naval exercise but Indians later learned that Warships from the Russian Pacific Fleet has sailed out for the naval trainings.
Both sides are also expected to discuss the refit of the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier and its scheduled delivery in early 2013. Refitting of the aircraft carrier has slipped by four years and project cost has gone up $2.3 billion.
In a similar case with the leasing of the Akula-II class nuclear-powered submarine has also slipped by atleast by three years. India paid $670 million for completing the submarine under a 2003 contract.
