Indian navy has inducted a new Fast Attack Craft (FAC), INS Kabra at the Kochi naval base. Vice Admiral K N Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command was the chief guest at the commissioning ceremony of INS Kabra.
Vice Admiral K N Sushil said that cost effective, quick response ships like INS Kabra are essential for fighting a low piracy and low-intensity conflicts.
INS Kabra is produced by the Garden Reach Ship Builders and Engineers (GRSE) and it is the 8th ship of Bangaram Class fast attack craft (FACs). It has a top speed of over 35 knots and uses water-jet propulsion.
INS Kabra will be used in high-speed interdiction and search and rescue operations. It is armed with a 30 mm gun. FAC is also fitted with Machine guns and Man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS). INS Kabra is 49m long and has a standard displacement of 320 tons.
