Pakistan to Deploy Additional Troops To Stop Cross Border Attacks From Afghanistan

Pakistan has decided to deploy additional soldiers in the Chitral and Upper Dir to effectively counter ever increasing cross-border attacks by the Afghan militants.Pakistan Army is already moving troops from the Swat, Malakand division and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Drosh and Mirkhani in Chitral and Maidan in Upper Dir. 


These reinforcements will be used to argument the troops of Frontier Corps (FC) in these areas. 

All the soldiers including that of Frontier Corps has been placed under the direct command of the 19th Division, a Pakistan Army’s military division. 

 Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Athar Abbas has also confirmed the deployment of the additional soldiers in the area of Chitral and Upper Dir. He said, “Military troops at Pak-Afghan borderlands are deployed to stop the cross-border incursions from Afghanistan’s Kunar province. The paramilitary forces presently guard these areas and new contingents would assist them.”

This action has been taken after repeated attacks by hundreds of Taliban militants on paramilitary posts in Chitral district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. These militants have many sanctuaries in northeastern Afghanistan which are used as launching base for attacking bordering areas of Pakistan.
