US officials have been pressuring Pakistan to approve their request of a United States’ Security Liaison Officer (SLO) at every corps headquarters of the Pakistan Army. Pakistani English language newspapaer ‘The News’ has reported that the approval of the SLOs has been one of the biggest bone of contention between the officials of the two countries as Pakistan as rejected such US request due to security concerns.
Sources within the Pakistani security forces say that at one time part of Pakistani government was considering allowing US to have a ‘Security Liaison Officer’ in the Balochistan but the idea was dropped as Pakistan wasn’t ready for the permanent deployment of the SOL within the corps headquarters in Quetta.
Officals from the United States has been pressuring Pakistan for the approval of this proposal as they think that deployment of the US’s SLOs is essential for the covert/overt operations against the al-Qaeda elements in Pakistan.
