Naima Gul becomes first Female Pilot in Pakistan Army Aviation’s History
Twelve year old Naima Gul has become the first female pilot (honorary) of the 9th Squadron of the Pakistan Army Aviation by flying the Lama helicopter. She is a Thalassaemia patient and currently studies in the 4th grade.
She had requested the Chief of the Army Staff in a letter and expressed her desire to become the first female pilot (honorary) of 9th squadron in Pakistan Army Aviation’s history.

US offer no Apology or Regret over the killings of 44 Innocent Tribesmen in Drone Attack
Gen Petreaus has warned the US government that drone attacks like the ‘Dattakhel drone attack’ which resulted in the deaths of forty four innocent Pakistanis tribesmen should not occur again as this could very well end the cooperation of Pakistan Army with the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.
ISAF Commander in Afghanistan Gen David Petreaus is in touch with the senior officials of the Pakistan Army and had to deal with the strong protests from them.

Paksat 1R to be Launched on 14th August This Year
Pakistan telecommunication satellite replacement also known as Paksat 1R is scheduled to be launched on August 14 this year. Paksat 1R will be use to replace the current Paksat-1 satellite. In 2002 Pakistan purchased an old satellite which was developed by the Hughes for Indonesia and then it was placed in the allocated slot in December that year. Originally Paksat 1R was known as Palapa C1, was launched in 1996.
Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) officials have confirmed that Pakistan telecommunication satellite Paksat 1R is progressing as per schedule and will be launched on the Independence Day of Pakistan. They told the local media that government is providing funds even in these difficult financial times due to the importance of the project.
Pakistan will be able to receive data from the Paksat 1R satellite through the satellite ground stations which are situated in Karachi and Lahore.

Pakistan Army Starts Second Phase of Reconstruction in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Pak Army has stated the 2nd phase of the reconstruction efforts in the areas which were hit last year by the flood in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the first phase Pakistan army has already completed 200 schools to restart the process o education, over 900 homes for the homeless people in the area and 35 hospitals in the area of Nowshera and Charsadda districts.
Pakistan, Turkey and Afghanistan Participating in Urban Warfare Exercise
Pakistan, Turkey and Afghanistan are conducting an urban warfare exercise in Turkey on 19th to 26th of this month.
Turkish Ministry of Foreign affairs has said that this exercise will be held in Istanbul and is aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the participating nations in area of urban warfare.

Business As Usual:US Drones keep Flying in North Waziristan Agency (NWA)
Despite the so called strong protests by the by the government of Pakistan drone strikes attacks in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) and rumors of putting the PAF on high alert, US drones have kept flying North Waziristan Agency (NWA) area.
Protests were launched against the drone strike which killed over 40 innocent civilians in the area when US drones targeted a peaceful tribal jirga. Different sources have claimed that atleast 12 US drone flights were recorded in the area.

Pakistan Air Force Placed on High Alert
Pakistani Media is reporting that Pakistan government has placed Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on a high alert after the US drone attack which resulted in loss of high number of innocent life in FATA.
In response of US drone attack, Pakistan has decided not to participate in the trilateral meeting between the United States, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Pakistan Air Force has been asked to intensify the air patrols over Pakistan’s northwestern tribal regions after a US drone strike in North Waziristan resulted in the deaths of over 40 civilians.

Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir has said that “Pakistan should not be taken for granted nor treated as a client state.” Pakistan has strongly protested against the US Predator drone strike in the North Waziristan Agency on the peaceful tribal jirga.
US ambassador Cameron Munter was call upon by the Pakistani Foreign Office on the orders of the Prime Minister Gilani and protest was recorded and explanation of killing the innocent civilians was demanded.Pakistani authorities have said that this drone strike was in complete violation of humanitarian norms and law.
US ambassador was told that Pakistan feels that fundamentals of relationship between the two countries need to be revisited. Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, Hussain Haqqani has also been directed make strong protest to the US State Department.
Pakistani Defense Ministry to Ensure Transparency in Defense Contracts
Pakistan’s defense ministry has asked all organizations working under its authority including Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force to follow the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Rules 2004. This is being done to ensure the transparency in all the defense contracts awarded by the Pakistani defense ministry and organizations working under it.

General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Condemns Attack by US Predator Drones
Pakistani Army Chief, General Kayani has strongly condemned the attack by the US Predator drones in the North Waziristan Agency which has resulted in large number of civilian causalities.
Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said that this attack was undesirable consideration that it was used to target a peaceful jirga of tribal elders of the North Waziristan Agency. He said that this attack coldheartedly targeted the innocent people without any regard to human life.
He said that US Predator drones was in violation of international laws and against basic human rights which simply destroy the objective of elimination of terrorism.
General Kahlid Wynne Meets With Turkish President Mr Abdullan Gul
General Kahlid Shameem Wynne has met with the Turkish President Mr Abdullan Gul. He also visited the Turkish General Staff Headquarters where he was met with the Commander of Turkish Armed Forces General Isik Kosaner.
At his arrival he was also presented guard of honor by the soldiers from Turkish air force, Army and Navy. Both of them discussed matters of mutual interest and agreed to increase the military cooperation between Pakistan and Turkey.

Federal Cabinet Approve Joint Development of New Gen AIP Submarines with China
Despite rejection of the request to purchase new gen AIP submarines by the Senate’s Standing Committee on Defense Production, Pakistani Federal Cabinet has approved the project for joint development and co-production of new generation of submarines (SSK) with the China to counter the Indian purchase of diesel electric submarines, nuclear powered submarines, nuclear powered ballistic missile submarines and antisubmarine aircrafts by India.
Pakistan Navy had requested the joint development and production to fill the gap created due to the retirement of older submarines by Pakistan Navy.
In first phase Pakistan is looking to buy 6 submarines fitted with Air Independent Propulsion system but eventual requirement is for nine new generation submarines.
Due to urgency of the requirement Pakistan Navy will order first four submarines from Chinese shipyard and later two from the local shipyards.

Senate’s Standing Committee on Defence Production Rejects New Submarine Project for PN
Senate’s standing committee on Defence Production held a meeting at parliament house. Senate’s standing committee on Defence Production headed by the Senator Lt Gen (Retd) Javed Asharaf Qazi and other senaters who attended the meeting were Deputy Chairman Senate Mir Jan Muhammad Khan Jamali and Senators Sardar Ali Khan, Raja Muhammad Zafar ul Haq, Prof. Khurshid Ahmed, Haji Muhammad Adeel, Moulana Muhammad Khan Sherani and Ch. Shujaat Hussain.
Senate’s standing committee on Defence Production was briefed by the Ministry of Defense Production that 4th F-22P frigate produced indigenously with help of Chinese in Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works. Committee was informed that 4th frigate will be ready for formal induction into the Pakistan Navy by June 2011.
Senate’s body on defense production was also briefed about the recently started project of development of Fast Missile Carrier Craft to meet the needs of Pakistan Navy for small ship for costal defense.Senate’s body on defense production was also briefed about the Military Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (MVRDE).
No 5 Squadron of PAF Re-Equipped with F-16 C/D Block 52+ Fighter Jets
Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani was the chief guest of the re-equipment ceremony of No 5 Squadron of PAF. This ceremony was held at the Pakistan Air Force Base, Shahbaz (Jacobabad) this Thursday.
No 5 Squadron is one of the oldest squadrons of the Pakistan Air Force and in the past no 5 Squadron was using French Mirage fighter jets. Now no 5 Squadron of PAF has been re-equipped with recently purchased high tech F-16 C/D Block 52+ fighter jets.
Pakistan Test Fires Hataf-2 Abdali Ballistic Missile
Pakistan Army has successfully tested short range ballistic missile Hataf-2 Abdali which has a range of 180km. Missile can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads. This test was conducted by the Army to validate the latest improvements donein the Hataf-2 Abdali ballistic missile.

Pakistan & China to Jointly Develop New Gen AIP Submarines
Pakistani ministry of defense has requested the Pakistani government to allow Pakistan Navy to for joint development and co-production of new generation of submarines (SSK) with the China to effectively counter the naval threats faced by the country.
Joint development and coproduction of six diesel electric submarines fitted with the Air Independent Propulsion will be done with China Shipbuilding and Offshore Corporation Limited (SCOC) after the approval by the federal cabinet. Ministry of defense briefed the Pakistani Federal Cabinet that currently Pakistan Navy is facing "critical force imbalance" due to the retirement of earlier submarines and acquisition of new submarines by the Indian Navy.
Defense ministry has requested to allow PN to sign a "mutually agreed draft protocol" for the joint development and coproduction of six submarines. It is understood that talks for acquiring the submarines were first time held during the visit of the president Asif Ali Zardari in 2009. The matter again came under discussion during the visit of the Chinese Premier to Pakistan last year.

British Chief of Defense Staff Met with General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani
British Chief of defense Staff today met with the Chief of the Pakistan Army General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and discussed the situation in Pakistan and Afghanistan border area.
Governemnt sources have said that General Sir David Richards and General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani discussed matters of mutual interest also came under discussion.
Pakistani Military Delegation in Sri Lanka
Pakistani military officials lead by the headed by Lieutenant General Muzammil Hussain, Inspector General Training and Evaluation, Pakistan Army has reached Sri Lanka. This delegation will stay in Sri Lanka till March 11.
This group of officials includes military officers from the different field of Pakistan Army including operation, training and other important fields. During their visit these officials will interact with their Sri Lankan Army’s counterparts and try to learn from each other’s experience.

General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Witness the Army Field Firing Exercise
Pakistani Army Chief, General Kayani has visited Bahawalpur Cantonment area where he was received by Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lieutenant General Naeem Khalid Lodhi.
During his visit, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani observed field firing exercises of the Pakistan army units in Khairpur Tamewali.
Aman-11 Naval Exercise :Pakistan Navy
Pakistani Navy has organized naval exercise called Aman-11. Navies from all parts of the world will be talking part in this exercise which will include Special Operations Forces and War at Sea exercise in the Arabian Sea this month. A total of 49 countries have been invited to participate in this exercise.
First such exercise was held by the Pakistan navy in March 2007. Fourteen warships from countries like Bangladesh, China, France, Italy, Malaysia, UK and USA participated and were considered a great success. In 2007 in Special Operation Forces of Turkey and Bangladesh also took part in the exercise along with the Special Operation Forces of Pakistan navy while another twenty one countries attended as observers.
High Ranking Officials from Pakistan, Afghanistan and ISAF Held a Meeting
High ranking officials from the militaries of Afghanistan, Pakistan and coalition forces in Afghanistan meet for the 33rd time to discuss the security situation in the region.
In this discussion Pakistani delegation was lead by the Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani while Afghan National Army’s chief General Sher Muhammad Karimi was heading Afghan side. Coalition force’s delegation was headed by the International Security Assistance Force Commander, General David H Petreaus.

Russia Offers AESA Radar for Indian SU-30MKI Fighter Jets
Russia has offered India to supply it with Active Electronically Scanned Array Radar for Indian Su-30MKI fighter jets. Details of this offer are currently under discussion between the two countries.
Upgraded Indian Su-30MKI fighter jets will be able to use foreign weapon systems beside Russian missiles. India will also upgrade around 42 Su-30MKI fighter jets to make them capable of carrying Indo-Russian “BrahMos” supersonic anti-ship missile.
India To Buy Over 1000 Helicopter by End of This Decade
Indian defense forces will induct around 450 Light Utility Helicopters, 12 VVIP Helicopters, over 222 gunship helicopters, 139 Mi-17 military transport helicopters, 15 Heavy Lift military Transport Helicopters and over 50 Multirole Helicopters for the Indian Navy.

Xinggang Shipyard Starts Construction of Missile Boat for Pakistan Navy
Xinggang Shipyard of China has started the construction of the first of two missile boats for the Pakistan Navy. Ceremony was attended by the Pakistan Navy’s Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz Ahmed .
According to the agreement first missile boat will be produced at the Xinggang Shipyard in Tianjin and 2nd will be produced under transfer of technology by the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works in Pakistan.
These new missile boats are planned to be equipped with Chinese Type 730-B CIWS a 7 barrel 30mm Gatling gun which can fire 5800 rounds per minute and have a range of about 3 kilometers against antiship missiles. Pakistani F-22P Sword class Frigates are also equipped with same weapons systems.
Missile boa equipped with the eight C-802A anti ship missile which can destroy enemy ships at a range of 180km with its 165kg warhead.
Pakistan Air Force Discussing Additional F-16 Fighter Jets with USA
Pakistan Air Force’s chief of air staff, Air Chief Marshall Rao Qamar Suleman has confirmed that PAF is discussing with the United States about the possibility to get additional F-16 fighter jets. However he hasn’t indicated about the number of additional F-16s which PAF is looking for.
Pakistan Air Force already has 45 older F-16 A/B fighter jets which are undergoing midlife upgrades at the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). This upgrade will bring them very close in performance to the newly acquired 18 F-16 C/D block 52+. This upgrade will be completed by 2014.
Three F-16 A/B are already in Turkey for upgrades and another four F-16s are in USA for technical inspections so that midlife upgrade kits can be developed. These midlife upgrade kits will be sent to TAI which will install them on Pakistani F-16 A/B fighter jets.
