De-mining team of the Pakistan Army Engineering Corps is currently visiting Sri Lanka on the invitation of the Sri Lankan Army. Colonel Zaafir Nisar is leading the Pakistani de-mining team which will stay in Sri Lanka from 13th October to 28th of this month.

Ten member team have extensive experience clearing the area from mines from their deployment for such missions in Sudan and Cambodia. Pakistani team will share their experiences with their Sri Lankan counterparts and visit the Mullativu and Madu areas which are being cleared from mines by the Sri Lankan de-mining experts.

Earlier this year, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Pakistan Army General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had agreed to send an experienced de-mining team to help the Army in their de-mining efforts.

Pakistan Army is also offering to train the Sri Lanka soldiers in Pakistani institutes including training in de-mining at the request of the Sri Lankan Army chief.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have very comprehensive collaboration for sharing the training and experience in the field of defence.
