Yuan Class SSKs are the new generation Submarines of the People's Liberation Army Navy.The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen recently inspected a Yuan class diesel submarine during his visit to China.

Yuan Class Submarines has a displacement of around 3,600t when dived and it is speculated that Yuan class SSK use Air-independent propulsion (AIP) system which is based on Stirling engine.
