A malfunction in the K-8P Karakorum training aircraft has caused the death of Squadron Leader Muhammad Ahmad on 8 January 2025 after its aircraft caught fire mid flight. The Karakorum training aircraft reportedly malfunctioned and caught fire during the routine training mission. The time of the crash was close to 1130 am at near Pakistan Air Force's academy Risalpur.
The K-8P Karakorum’s rapid descent coupled with an explosion was reported to be the cause of the fire according to some eyewitnesses. First responders and rescuse services arrived at the scene of the accident but pilot was martyered due to his injuries as Squadron Leader Ahmed Mian was unable to eject.
The K-8 Karakorum is one of the modernization fighter jet trainer of the Pakistan air force and was developed and produce by Chinese Hongdu Aviation in corporation with Pakistan Aeronautical Complex PAC. Karakorum-8 uses a single engine and it is able to use a range of armaments, training bombs, missiles and 23mm cannon pods for both training and combat. Over 15 airforces from round the world has adopted this verstile fighter jet trainer over the years.
