Farhat Hussain Appointed Vice Air Chief of Pakistan Air Force

The government of Pakistan appointed Air Marshal Farhat Hussain Khan Pakistan Air Force (PAF) vice chief of the air staff. Khan was commissioned in the PAF General Duties (Pilot) Branch on March 6, 1977. He served as a fighter pilot in various fighter squadrons and has flown almost all the modern weapon systems of the PAF.</div>

 He has commanded a fighter squadron, a fighter wing and an operational PAF airbase. Khan has qualified Combat Commanders’ Course and PAF Air War Course. He is also a graduate of the National Defence University (NDU) and holds a masters degree in defence and strategic studies.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
 During his service in the PAF, he has remained on various important command and staff appointments and served as air attaché in India. Khan has also served as JF-17 chief project director and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Board (PACB) chairman at Kamra. He has received Hilal-e-Imtiaz (military), Sitara-e-Imtiaz (military) and Sitara-e-Basalat.</div>

Pakistan today conducted a successful test fire of the multi tube, indigenously developed Cruise Missile Hatf-VII (Babur) having a range of 700 kms. Babur Cruise Missile is a low flying, terrain hugging missile with high maneuverability, pin point accuracy and radar avoidance features. It can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads and has stealth capabilities. </div>

It also incorporates the most modern cruise missile technology of Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) and Digital Scene Matching and Area Co-relation (DSMAC), which enhances its precision and effectiveness manifolds.
The missile was launched from a state of the art multi tube Missile Launch Vehicle (MLV) which significantly enhances the targeting and employment options of Babur Weapon System in both the conventional and nuclear modes. </div>

The test was witnessed by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shameem Wynne, Director General Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General Khalid Ahmed Kidwai (R), Chairman National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM), Mr Muhammad Irfan Burney, senior officers from the armed forces and strategic organizations, scientists and engineers.</div>

 The test will consolidate Pakistan’s strategic deterrence capability, and further strengthen national security.

Defence Budget For FY-2012-2013 Announced

The budget for FY-2012-2013 has allotted Rs.545 billion for non-development segment of defense, which is Rs.36 billion more than that of previous year’s.

Rs.209.27 billion of this allocation would be spent on salaries, Rs.143.54 billion for running expenses, Rs.120.52 billion for physical assets and Rs.57 billion have been allotted for civil works.</div>

Pakistan, today conducted a successful Flight Test of the indigenously developed Air Launched Cruise Missile, Hatf-VIII (Ra’ad).  The Ra’ad Missile, with a range of over 350 KM, enables Pakistan to achieve strategic standoff capability on land and at Sea.</div>

‘Cruise Technology’ is extremely complex and has been developed by only a few countries in the world. A major additional feature of today’s test was the effective employment of the National Command Authority’s fully automated Strategic Command and Control Support System (SCCSS). The Multi-Tube Hatf IX Nasr has a range of 60km Surface-to-Surface Range and is reportedly capable of carrying nuclear warheads upto 50kg.

The test was conducted in connection with Pakistan's 14th anniversary as nuclear power (May 28 atomic blasts), officials said. Earlier on April 25th, Pakistan had test-fired MRBM Shaheen I-A, the upgraded version of Shaheen-I followed by the test-launch of SRBM Ghaznavi-I on May 10th. </div>

 An official statement says, Nasr can ‘carry nuclear warheads of appropriate yield, with high accuracy and possesses shoot and scoot attributes. This quick response system addresses the need to deter evolving threats, specially at shorter ranges’. Reportedly, the next test-exercise of MRBMs would start in July this year.

Official sources say, Nasr’s ‘impact time’ (the amount of time it takes to hit the target after setting off from launching pad) is 1.5 to three minutes, which according to officials, is the shortest impact time of any Pakistani SRBM. </div>

The Monday test, reportedly carried out in Somiani near Karachi, was witnessed by Director General NDC Anwaar Muzaffar, DG SPD Lieutenant General (Retd) Khalid Kidwai, DG Army Strategic Force Command (ASFC) Lieutenant General Tariq Nadeem Gilani and Chairman National Scientific and Engineering Commission (NESCOM) Irfan Burni.

A statement quoted Kidwai as terming the Nasr missile as a ‘weapon of peace’, stating that the test was a major development which would consolidate Pakistan's deterrence capability at ‘all levels of the threat spectrum, thereby ensuring peace in the region’.</div>

Pakistan Navy’s newly commissioned fast attack craft, PNS Azmat, has left the Sebang Naval base, Indonesia, the embassy has said.</div>

 The craft started its voyage home from China in April and passing through different countries including Malaysia and Indonesia, the warship will reach Pakistan shortly.PNS Azmat is the first of Azmat class fast attack craft (missile).</div>

 The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors, including surface-to-surface missiles and has stealth features.

Defence Attache, Pakistan Embassy, Indonesia, Col Umer, Base Commander, Sebang, Col Dodi and other Indonesian Naval Officers, welcomed the craft being led by Commander Ahmad Hussain. The welcoming ceremony featured a tradtional dance performance. </div>
