Chief of army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that Parliamentarians and the top political leader ships should form a consensus on the defence issues and take decisions regarding the drone attacks by the United States and Pakistan “Military would follow that line.”
This was stated during in-camera briefingto the Parliamentarians and Standing Committees on Defence of National Assembly and Senate of Pakistan at General Headquarters (GHQ).
In response to a question by a parliamentarian from the PML-N regarding the high number of US & NATO soldier being deployed at the Pak-Afghan border, Chief of army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said “Our job is to secure our side. It is not in our knowledge if any significant military activity has taken place at the border area in Afghanistan.”
General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani also said that decision to launch any military operation in Pakistan rests with the Pakistani federal government.
Much of briefing was given by the DG Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha about the Pakistani relations with the United States and recent acts of terrorism in Pakistani areas from Afghanistan.
