Documents obtained by the Guardian has confirmed that Osama bin Laden was able to escape the special forces units of the United States and United Kingdom on his refuge in December 2001 with the help of a local warlord and ran towards the north-east of Afghanistan, not towards the Pakistan as claimed by the United States for years.
It has been confirmed that Osama bin Laden, head of the al-Qaida leader was able to escape the Tora Bora with the help of the militant commander and cleric called Maulawi Nur Muhammad. Documents have show that Maulawi Nur Muhammad provided Osama with an escort of 40 or 50 fighters to protect him and his Ayman al-Zawahiri to safety.
From the start of the war in Afghanistan, United States has maintained that Osama has escaped towards south from Tora Bora into Pakistan. They claimed that he was able to evade the Pakistani troops and paramilitary forces and is now in Pakistan.
But these documents clearly indicate that al-Qaida leader along with his closest associate al-Zawahiri went towards north not south. It is still a mystery how he was able to get through the lines of the coalition forces including their Special Forces units and Afghan auxiliaries.
During his escape towords noth he stayed at the house of Awal Malim Gul in or near the city of Jalalabad and then went to the afghan province of Kunar where he stayed for next 10 months.
