Pakistan Air Force Jets Strike Taliban Hideouts

Taliban: Militant Islam, Oil and Fundamentalism in Central Asia, Second Edition
Hundereds of villagers are fleeing from the Kurram Agency because of the fears of the military operation in the FATA.
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is using its fighter aircrafts to strike against the Taliban militants hideouts in the Kurram Agency. Many consider this as the first phase of operation in which airpower is being used to soffen the targets before launching ground assult.

Pakistani Defense Minister has said that Pakistan Army will soon take the control of the Air Base which often quoted as the launching base for the Americans drones.

PNS Alamgir to Conduct Joint Naval Exercise with Kuwaiti Navy

Pakistan Navy’s Frigate PNS Alamgir (F 260) is scheduled to conduct joint naval exercise with the Kuwait Naval Forces from July 2 to 6. Visit of the PNS Alamgir to Kuwait will help in boosting the defense ties between the two brotherly nations.

Pakistan Navy sends its Warships to Kuwait periodically as a sign of Pakistani goodwill towards the State of Kuwait.

PNS Babur Frigate Resumes Anti Piracy Operation

Pakistan Navy's PNS Babur Type 21 frigate has sailed from King Saud International Seaport (also known as Jeddah Islamic Seaport) to resume its anti piracy mission.

On Sunday night, visitors from the Naval force of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were welcomed by the crew of the PNS Babur on the frigate’s deck.

Pakistan Expelled United Kingdom's Military Trainers

Government of Pakistan has expelled the military trainers of the United Kingdom from the country. Earlier ,  Pakistan has also expelled over 120 American trainers from the country in the wake of the unilateral attack inside Pakistan on May 2.

There is raising anger over the American behavior of  unilateralism. Majority of the Pakistanis are asking for the decreased cooperation with the United States and its close allies as they feel the western allies are compromising Pakistan's sovereignty with continuous drone attacks and cross border operations.

Nuclear and Missile Confidence Bilding Measures Proposed

Foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India has discussed different proposals on the conventional and nuclear confidence building measures. Talks between Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir has ended in Islamabad. Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and India are schedule to meet in New Delhi next month.

One of the proposals presented during these talks was inclusion of testing of the cruise missile in the mechanism for pre-flight notification of ballistic missile tests. At the time of agreement in October 2005, India only agreed for pre-flight notification of the ballistic missiles as it thought that Pakistan lack cruise missile program.

Punjab Govt Requests Relocation of Naval War College

Punjab government has asked the Pakistan Navy to move its Naval War College from the GOR-1. Chief Secretary of Punjab has approached the Pakistan Navy to relocate the Naval War College to a safer neighborhood.

Chief Secretary of Punjab has earlier tried to convince the Naval War College's administration to relocate the college either in the cantonment or in Islamabad. This college has been the target of the terrorists in past and was attacked by suicide bombers on March 4, 2008.

PNS Zulfiqar Reaches Pakistan with Crew of MV Suez

PNS Zulfiqar carrying the crew of the MV Suez reached Karachi after six days of sea journey and berthed at about 04:30pm. Four Pakistanis Ship Captain Wasi Hasan, Engineer Syed Alam, Chief Officer Ali Rehman and Diesel Mechanic Muzzammil were among the freed hostages.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, chief of Ansar Burney Trust Ansar Burney, his brother, CPLC chief Ahmad Chinoy, families of Pakistani hostages and many more prominent people were present at this occasion to welcome the freed hostages on their release after 10 months of captivity by the Somali pirates.

Pakistan Navy to Receive Mesma AIP Module for PNS Saad

French naval shipbuilder DCNS will soon supply Pakistan Navy with the 2nd Mesma AIP (air-independent propulsion) module PNS Saad (S138) which was built in Pakistan with French assistance.

PNS Saad is an Agosta 90B Class conventional submarine which was completed  in August 2002 at Karachi Naval Dockyard and was commissioned into the Pakistan Navy in December 2003.

Indian Army Peacekeepers are facing allegations of sexually exploiting women in Congo during their deployment under a United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.

The United Nations has briefed India about these allegations against the Indian Army's 6 Sikh battalion during its deployment in Congo in 2007-08.

Crew of MV Suez Transferred to F-22P PNS Zulfiqar Frigate

Crew of the Merchant Vessel Suez was transferred to F-22P PNS Zulfiqar frigate from the PNS Babur on Monday evening.

Pakistan navy sent the F-22P PNS Zulfiqar frigate for the mission “Operation Umeed-i-Nau” which was designed to rescue and bring the of the crew of the MV Suez back to Pakistan.

F-22P PNS Zulfiquar Frigate to on its Way for Mission "Ummeed eh Nau" (Hope for Ship)

Pakistan Navy has sent F-22P PNS Zulfiquar frigate to bring back the 22 sailors of the Merchant Vessel Suez. All the sailors of the MV Suez boarded Pakistan Navy's frigate PNS Babur after 17,300 DWT merchant vessel ran out of fuel.

Commodore Irfan-ul-Haq, Director-General for Public Relations with the Pakistan Navy has confirmed that F-22P PNS Zulfiquar frigate has left Pakistan for the mission "Ummeed eh Nau" (Hope for Ship) to bring the 22 sailors of the Merchant Vessel Suez to Pakistan.

Joint Operation against Taliban Terrorists

Pakistani security check post along the border with Afghanistan was attacked once again by the Taliban terrorists from the Afghan side. Over 50 Taliban terrorists were involved in this attack in northwest Pakistan.

Pakistani security forces responded with their own joint attack to force the terrorist to flee into their safe havens inside Afghanistan. Pakistan air force was used to attack the terrorists along with the Frontier Corps and Pakistan Army.

Angry Indian Navy Threatens PNS Babur after Its Helps "MV Suez"

Pakistani Foreign Ministry has launched a formal protest against the Indian warship which tried to stop the Pakistani warship from helping the Merchant Vessel Suez by undertaking dangerous maneuvers.

Pakistani spokesperson, Tehmina Janjua has said that Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Sharat Sabharwal was summoned to the Pakistani Foreign Office and formal protest was launched over the actions of the Indian Navy’s Godavari warship in the Gulf of Aden on June 16, 2011.

21st Century Version of Pressler Amendment Approved

United States has announced that it has imposes limits on the aid provided to Pakistan. United States’ House Appropriations Committee has given approval to put limits on the aid provided to Pakistan. This new bill will allow US government to withhold around 75 per cent of the promised aid.

While such amendment are aimed at providing the Congress with greater power to review the aid to Pakistan, it will also send negative signals to Pakistan where the popular believe is that history of last Afghan war is repeating itself and US is leaving Pakistan.

Indian Defence Secretary to Discuss Defence Ties with Russia

Indian Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar will discuss the delivery of nuclear submarine and aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov in his 4 day visit to Russia. He will also discuss the soured  relationship due to the Russian decisions to not conduct scheduled exercises with the Indian naval and Indian army.

Indian naval chief Admiral Nirmal Verma has also expressed disappointment over Russian decisions. Russia informed India about the cancellation of the exercise when 5 Indian warships including INS Delhi, INS Ranvir and INS Ranvijay reached Vladivostok.

INS Kabra Fast Attack Craft Inducted in Indian Navy

Indian navy has inducted a new Fast Attack Craft (FAC), INS Kabra at the Kochi naval base. Vice Admiral K N Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command was the chief guest at the commissioning ceremony of INS Kabra.

Vice Admiral K N Sushil said that cost effective, quick response ships like INS Kabra are essential for fighting a low piracy and low-intensity conflicts.

Pakistan Navy and Maritime Security Agency (MSA) has saved fishermen trapped in a fishing boat at sea. Maritime Security Agency received a distress call from the  fishing boat ‘Waadia' which suffered an engine failure.

India Must Develop ICBM with Range Over 10,000km: Chief of Indian Air Force

Indian Air Chief, Air Chief Marshal Pradeep Vasant Naik has said that India should develop intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) with range over 10,000 km to ensure that India can target any part of the world if required.

This satatement came only days after announcement by the Indian Defence Minister AK Antony that Indian   Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will launch nuclear capable Agni-V Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) by the end of 2011. Agni-V is a three stage solid fuel ballistic missile with range of 5,000 km.

Pakistan Marines & Sindh Rangers to Aid in Security of Karachi Fish Harbour

Pakistan Marines (PM) will aid in the security of the Karachi Fish Harbour (KFH) by establishing a picket in the seawater to inspect each and every boat to safeguard naval and civil installations at Karachi the port. Pakistan Naval officials has also confirmed that Pak Marines will be in-charge of the security of Karachi Fish Harbour from the sea side. 

Sindh Fisheries Minister Zahid Bhurgari has said that this was agreed in a meeting  which included oficals from the Pakistan Navy (PN), Maritime Security Agency (MSA) and Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) and Trawlers Owners Association.

Breakdown of US Aid and Its Allocation to Pakistan

Since the start of war against terrorism, United States has provided $12.522 billion to Pakistan and allocated a total of $20.713 billion under Coalition Support Fund (CSF). Out of these $12.522 billion, Pakistani security forces has received $2.478 billion.

American Soldiers Will Not be Allowed on Pakistani Soil: Pakistan

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant-General Ahmad Shuja Pasha has informed CIA Director Leon Panetta that Pakistan will no allow American soldiers to operate in country. Pakistan Navy Provides Protection to MV Hyderabad

Pakistan Navy has tasked one of its warship to provide protection to the National Flag Carriers against teh attack by pirates in the North Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Pakistan Allocates Separate Budget to the Armed Forces Development Programme

Pakistani government plans to spend Rs. 150 billion on the Pakistani security forces over and above the defense budget of Rs. 495 for the fiscal year 2011-12.

Out of Rs. 150 billion for the armed forces, Rs. 80 billion will be given under the 10-year Armed Forces Development Programme while another Rs. 50 billion for reimbursed under the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) by the US. Remaining Rs. 20 billion are for participation of the Pakistani security forces for United Nations Peacekeeping Operations.

Pakistan Allocates Rs.56 Billion for Internal Security

Due to ever increasing threat of terrorist attack on the nation,budget for the internal security was increased to Rs. 56 billion for the fiscal year 2011-12. This marks an increase of 2.6% over the internal security budget for the outgoing fiscal year. Last year Rs. 54.58 billion were allocated by the federal government of Pakistan.

A large sum of this allocation will be used in paying the salaries, allowances and accommodation facilities of the Pakistani security departments. Federal government has allocated Rs. 102 million for raising the Balochistan Constabulary and Rs. 300 million were allocated for setting up 'National Forensic Science Agency' headquarters and the Islamabad laboratory.

India Once Again Threatens to Attack Pakistan

Indian defense minister has once again threatened to attack Pakistan. This comes after a series of statements in last couple of years aimed at showing the world that India is ready to attack Pakistan at its will.

Indian defense minister M.M. Pallam Raju has said that if any terrorist incident occurred in India it will attack Pakistan. India has recently been declared as the worlds largest arms importer which purchase over 10% of the total major conventional weapons sale during the period of 2006 to 2010. 

Ilyas Kashmiri Killed in MQ-9 Reaper Drone US Strike

Leader of the banned group Harkat-ul Jihad al Islami (HuJI), Mohammad Ilyas Kashmiri has been killed in a missile strike by the US MQ-9 Reaper (a.k.a Predator B) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Missile strike targeted a house in the two room compound in Ghwa Khwa area of Wana, South Waziristan after intelligence source confirmed his presence in South Waziristan. Harkat-ul Jihad Islami has confiemed the death of the Mohammed Ilyas Kashmiri in the missile strike via an e-mail.

Pakistani Defense Budget Increased by 11.37%

Pakistan's finance minister, Dr Hafeez Shaikh has announced that defense budget for for next fiscal year will be Rs495.215 billion (just under $6 billion). This marks an increase of 11.37% when compared to the defense budget of the last year.

Government maintains that due to high inflation of 14 %, increase of mere 11.37 % actually means that defense budget has actually been decreased by almost 2.63%.

Pakistan Sends Dispatches Additional Soldiers to Upper Dir

Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps have sent fresh soldiers in the area of Upper Dir where the Afghan Talibans attacked Pakistani check post.

Another attack was launched by the Afghan Talibans against Pakistani areas in Upper Dir from across the border. This time Pakistani security forces were ready and responded with superior firepower and caused enough causalities to the enemy to force them to flee back to their bases in Afghanistan.

Pakistan Lodged Protest with Afghanistan over Taliban Attack

Pakistani Foreign Office (FO) has summoned Afghan envoy to the Pakistani foreign office and lodged strong protest against the use of Afghan territory by the terrorists groups for attacking Pakistan. Pakistan has asked the Afghan forces and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to take active action against cross-border militancy against Pakistan.

Threat Level Increased for PAF Base Chaklala

Pakistan Air Force has increased the security of the PAF Base Chaklala and Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad after the threat level was raised for these installations by the intelligence agency.  

Sources threat level was increased after receiving intelligence that PAF Base Chaklala might be attacked by the  terrorist groups.

Afghan Militants Attack Pakistani Check Post and Villages

Up to 300 Taliban fighters has crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan's Kunar province and attacked a Pakistani check-post and surrounding villages in Shaltalo area of Upper Dir, a district in northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province.

Local sources say that Afghan Taliban attacked the checkpost which is manned by police and Dir Levies at about 4:00am killing about 27 police and Levies personnel and three civilians. 

Helicopter Carrying DG Punjab Rangers Crashes

Helicopter carrying the Punjab Ranger's Director General (DG), Maj-Gen Nawaz, his son Capt Asif Nawaz, pilot Lt-Col Amir Abbas and technician Subedar Ibadullah has crashed into the Indus River at Bakhri Ahmad Khan about 40 kilometres from Layyah district.

DG Rangers Punjab was on his way to Kashmore from Dera Ismail Khan when crash occurred.

So far body of Capt Asif Nawaz had been recovered while operation to find remaining bodies was called off after nightfall due to bad weather.

Pakistan Navy Briefs Senate' Standing Committee on Defence on PNS Mehran Attack

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nauman Bashir spiked his appearance before the Senate’s Standing Committee on Defence. In camera session of senate's body was called to discuss the attack on the PNS Mehran base of the Pakistan Navy under the chairmanship of Lt-Gen (retd) Javed Ashraf Qazi.


Deputy Naval Chief Admiral Shafqat Javed and Chairman Inquiry Committee Rear Admiral Tehsin Ullah Khan were sent to brief the Senate’s Standing Committee by the Pakistan Navy. both officials declined to answer the questions asked by the members of the Senate’s body.

Punjab Rangers' Helicopter Crashes with D.G. Rangers Onboard

Pakistani local media channels are reporting that a helicopter has crashed near the Indus River. Helicopter belonging to Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) has crashed into the Indus River at Kot Sultan in Layia. 

It is reported that Director General of the Punjab Rangers, Major General Muhammad Nawaz, two captains and one colonel were on board helicopter when it crashed.
